I'm considering submitting some coins to a TPG, but since this my first time, I wasn't sure which one is the best.

The top on the list is PCGS, but I've read that they don't require their graders to wear gloves when handling coins, which is a major turnoff for me. Does anyone know if they hold the coin by the edge or actually touch the surface?

Since I'm a member of the ANA, it would be easy to submit to ANACS, and I kind of prefer them anyway.

Which of the TPG's (if any) require their graders to wear gloves, and which would you say handles and grades coins the best?

Generally, they don't wear gloves. Too many rim bumps catch a snag and the next thing you hear is the ringing of the drawer(cash going out). PCGS for resale of items and ANACS for grades and varieties. nlp

The ANA has nothing to do with ANACS. If you are an ANA member you can submit directly to NGC, in other words you don't need to buy a membership.

I don't wear gloves either, never will, and don't recommend the practice.

As many of you know already, I personally prefer ANACS as well, IMHO they're #1 with Morgans and all varieties... I'm not a super fan of the new "top view" slabs, I like the old white ones better, but I can deal with the new ones. I've found them more than reasonably priced and quite accurate with grading and attributions.

But I do admit, that for resale PCGS comes out on top.... Unfortunately. And as mentioned, anyone can submit to ANACS direct, ANA or not. And once you sign up to be an "insider" on their site you usually get "gift" vouchers a couple times through out the year, usually 2 coins free, just pay shipping and return shipping. And they have other great deals through out the year as well, ex. "Dollars & cents".

Its only by the edge. By the edge with clean hands wont do any hard to a coin especially if its a circulated one.

None of them require graders to wear gloves that I am aware of. The risk of dropping a coin with gloves going through hundreds/thousands a day manipulating it to grade it is far greater than without.

Thank you, everyone, for your feedback. I learn something new every day here at CCF!

My only concern was that these coins of mine are very high grade, and I didn't want to have fingerprints on them. However, it is a relief to know that the graders handle the coins by the edges only!

I agree with nlp coins. I have never used gloves in the 40+ years I have been in the hobby.

The best for resale? PCGS
Best for varities/errors/problem coins? ANACS
Middle of the road in everything? NGC

I don't prefer one over the other. It's the coin that counts since I don't have the money to buy coins when the plastic means more than the coin itself.

NGC does a wonderful (ICG second) job with world coins. I'd put them at the top for world coins aside from expensive coins (then PCGS.....resale......).

Let me throw something out there.
When buying, I always look for ANACS first. Why? Because I can usually get the best deal. They "don't bring the money".
Specifically, I look for undergraded ANACS coins. With every intention of cracking it out and (you guessed it) sending it in to PCGS.
I have gained as much as two full points, and when the time comes to liquidate, I find myself with a piece that is much more saleable.
Conventional wisdom has it that ANACS early slabs are the most likely to be undergaded. I do not find that to be the case.
My field is primarily Washingtons, and I find that ANACS is MURDER on Washingtons. New slabs, old slabs, no matter.
Again, all the above is my experience. Your mileage may vary.
And let me add that I have looked at a BUNCH of Washingtons. I do not recommend this tactic to a beginner. Your pocketbook may suffer.

While it is my experience PCGS U.S. coins have higher value
NGC world coins sell for much more then PCGS.
