I recently acquired a 1943 steelie that the 4 in 1943 is almost non existent, it seems that die errors of this type are common, does this make the coin anymore valuable?

Since we don't have pictures of the coin, its impossible to tell the grade, condition or fate of the coin. It could be PMD - post mint damage - done after it left the mint. It could be a Grease Filled Die that kept the die from striking the coin correctly. It could have been a die filled with extra metal that affected the coin, or it could be that a coin roller machine or other device tore up the coin.

Without pictures, or a painfully accurate description of what you have - its impossible to say what its worth. IF its a grease/debris filled die, its not worth much.
