Have been looking at silver coins from the Perth Mint.

And just purchased my 1st silver coins some days ago from the Perth Mint Bullion section being a roll of 25 x 1/2oz Great White Shark coins, for around AUD $400 mailed. Mintage 300,000 with a min buy of 25 coins. So that is 12,000 buys of 25 coins if my math is right.

My question is:?

Perth Mint bullion section area is selling 1oz silver Lunar - Horse for AUD 31.61 each at present.

But the coloured coin section of the Perth Mint seems to be selling the same coin for AUD 102.00

Is the bullion coin of a poorer quality?

Or is the 7,500 numbered items cost $70.39 for the Numbered Certificate of Authenticity?

Did a search on this issue and found some good reads but not about this question.

Interesting find!

bullion is priced mostly by it's metal value.

limited editions/better produced/fancy coins are priced
based on it's potential desirability.

higher prices does not guarantee better quality.
lower prices do usually mean lesser quality.

Just my view but very hard to get ahead of the game with these buys,Dealer Discount(10%? still)plus no GST for O/S buyers means you can usually buy them on ebay a few Months down the track for less than issue value.I stress its just my opinion based on buying/selling over the years.I know people that were buying Mint products via Friends/Family in the States when the Oz.$ was low and making a tidy profit.

Thanks for the replies and insights.

One part of the mint sells a coin for AUD$102.00

and the other part sells the same coin for (up dated price) AUD$31.36

I can get over buying limited mintage's of 1oz silver coloured coins with price of $70 to $104 when silver spot price is $20.

But I am getting a real bad taste in my mouth over some silver coins costing $31.36 in one area of the Perth Mint but in another area of the same Perth Mint the same coin sells for $102.Like................

Why can I buy most coloured coin cheaper on ebay than the Perth Mint as also mentioned by Basil.
