OK, the grading descriptions in the RedBook are pretty weak, althought I've been following them pretty closely. Also, they have no grading guidelines for the Memorial penny. It's MS-63 or nothing in RedBook as far as values. I have hundreds of pennies to grade and hundreds I've already graded for my 2x2's....but 99% of them are wheats.

I've searched the internet like crazy and coppercoins.com is pretty good, but most of the grading pics have bad links (no pictures)....so it's of little help. Also, the grading descriptions on there are far more liberal than the RedBook IMO. Especially with respect to the wheathead lines. I lean toward conservative grading.

Does anyone know of any good websites with pictures for grading wheats and memorials? I'd like to make sure I'm not grossly under (or over) grading my pennies.

Thanks

The only additional guidance I've seen is to note the steps of the memorial are considered the key high point for the reverse. But I don't think they correlate well with the discriptions of the wheat stalks. I think you have to mainly use the obverse.

Hi Badthad

I do not know of any websites which will help with the grading of your Memorial cents ,, I can however make a suggestion .

Post up a coin or two here and we will help you build a reference set .They can then become the base for the rest of your cent coins to be graded from .

the RedBook gives generalities but does not take into consideration such things as strike quality or color which can vary widely in the Lincoln series .

I talked to a guy at one of my local shops, he's the buyer for their chain of stores here....he's really good at grading. He said to bring in some to him and he'd help me make a reference set.

When I get my cam back, I'll still take some pics per your suggestion Metalman. In fact, when I have time, I'm going to add a section on my website devoted to this since there's virtually NOTHING on the web.

Thanks

I will do that! He'd be a huge asset to these forums, that's all he does at his job, buy and grade.
