2 classic and 2 modern, but make the 2 modern the only 90% moderns: George Washington and Bill of Rights. Both are very affordable -- less than $20 easy.

The 1892 or 1893 Columbian is a great choice because it's the first and it's very affordable. For the last slot, there may be something from the series that speaks to you (commemorative from your home state, perhaps). I think the San Diego is the best compromise of cost and excellent design.

I was at the bank today and got 8 half dollars and one was the 1976-d Comm. for .50 cents. I do have a 46 Iowa Comm. from my mother she got when they were sold new and the 93 Colombian from my grandma that she got new. Family history to pass on to my grandson, hopefully not to soon.
