There was a thread about the 1939 Belgium 5 franc coin from 2009, But it is now locked and archived. I found the archived thread in my research about this coin, and have now joined the forum, hello everyone.

I am wondering if I have the coin that they are talking about? What is your opinion, what is this piece of nickel plated history really worth? or should I make a hobo nickel out of it?

This is indeed the same coin. As the variety with stars on the edge is very common, I can find this coin in junk-boxes, here in Belgium.

One variety of this coin with stars on the rim from 1939 is worth 1000 to 3000USD, does anyone know which type it is exactly?

I think you are talking of the 1939 in French and Dutch, so French (Belgique) at the left and Dutch (Belgie) ate the left. Its is valued over 4000 euro in Unc and extremely rare. You should however be careful, because there exists some restrikes of this piece, but none in nickel with a lettered edge.

So the rare one has belgique on the right, and belgie on the left just to clarify?

Edit; found it on another site the belgie belgique arrangment of my coin cuts 3 zeros off its pricetag. I guess its destined to be hobo nickel'ed. I think I will engrave a giant bar of chocolate on it!
