Lol good analogy! It certainly is not easy. I've found two replacement notes in circulation (one of them birds, of all series). I've probably handled several replacement notes, but they are impossible to tell unless you have a list of replacement note ranges.

What is the merit of collecting notes in this way? Last coin show I went to one dealer had a box full of modern polymer replacement notes. He asked me if I collect replacements, I said no not really, to which he replied "you should, there's a book coming out soon with a list of them". I'm thinking, it's in his own best interest to pump up his inventory, but to me, as Shoeplier said, it's not possible to visibly know on the street what is what. Plus, brick searchers have a complete edge over poorer collectors. I don't see the point, as there are hundreds of notes like this that one isn't really more rare than the next, each serial number on any note regardless of replacement status or not is unique. But that dealer telling me that I shoooould collect them is just odd. I've probably handled a bunch of these replacements for $100 bills. Is there an actual point in collecting these or is this a simple case of obsessive compulsive coin collecting? (OC3)

i was thinking the same, looking at the list it looks like the real ones to collect would be the regular issue bills cause there wont be to many left after all the replacements our in circulation
