I fondly remember as YN in the late 1990's being able to pick through a bin of Morgan dollars for $11 each at a local coin shop. Those days returned in 2008 when it was possible again to get common date circulated Morgans for $12. With silver continuing to move lower, does anyone think that we are going to see sub $15 dollar Morgan/Peace dollars again in the not so distant future? I hope so.

... I hope not. I have lots of silver bullion and wouldn't like to see the prices drop below $12...

Morgan Dollars? No. Peace dollars a very slight possibility.
Silver would have to dip to near 10-12 bucks an ounce and stay there for quite a while...weeks to months before the Older silver dollars would show any downward spiral.
Even then, the rarity of the Morgan dollar would not allow it to fall too far. If silver fell that low, immediate hoarding of silver would happen. I'd go to Golden State Mint and buy 200+ ounces of silver rounds instead of Morgans - and I am a Morgan collector. Then, after silver recovers and it peaks, sell it off and buy that MS68 Morgan you always wanted.

I agree with Collector-Corner. Morgans seem to be holding their prices even as silver falls. I doubt they will get below $15 even for circulated ones.

I don't think we'll see Morgans at $15 anytime soon, but if we do, I'll know what I'll be buying feverishly!

I don't think we will see any drops of Morgan prices here in Korea, even when silver drops. Damaged, well-circulated Morgans and peaces sell for like $30 in Korea, which is well over their silver price. Obviously, Morgans and Peaces, whatever the grade is, are relatively scarcer collector items in Korea. Silver price have had a lot of changes in the past ten years, but the prices of Morgans and Peaces stayed well over melt price.

Even junk silver Washington quarters sell for like $6~8 in Korea.....

Although this is an answer that no one can know for sure... I highly doubt it. I do not personally think the price of Morgans will ever go below $18.

Thank you for the insights.

There is a shop in my area that has a bin of common date circulated Morgan and Peace dollars for $23. I'll probably pick up a few the next time I'm there. Was able to pick up a nice AUish 1921 Morgan for $23, should have bought a few more. I'm thinking over the next few years that the premium over spot for the common dates will begin to slip a little if silver continues to slowly trend downward.

Depends on the strength of metals pricing and demand. I think it's certainly possible over the next 5-7 years if silver continues a light trend downward and settles in the 15-16 area.

One thing to consider is the immense amount of melting that has been going in in the past few years. I've been selling common walkers on ebay for like 13 a piece shipped online, at current prices thats almost double melt! The spot price may come down but the premiums wont go down nearly as much.

AS a Dealer I'm already buying them for $15 each. So; yeah. I expect that by the end of the year I'll be buying them for $10 to $13 each. The premium took awhile for them to catch up when Silver went sky high, and it will naturally take awhile to come down. Remember some dealers bought when silver was in the $40's. that's what's keeping the prices high. I was around when this happened in the early 80's; same story this time. Not much changed.

I sadly remember selling off a roll of my Morgans in 2008...20 coins for $280 on ebay...College was an expensive time. They drop anywhere close to $15 I'm cashing in everything and buying them!!

Bump. We are getting closer!

Saw some XF 1921 Morgans at the local coin shop for $17. They also had some XF/AU Peace dollars for the same price.

Wanted to get your thoughts and observations on what you're seeing in your area.
