This coin has a grade of MS64 but has a funny spot on the obverse. There seems to be a worn area under where the ear would be. Part of the headdress is worn at the bottom. What is your take on this as it an MS64? Scratched or worn off somehow? Weak strike?

This is just a guess but it looks like it took a hit near the worn area. I wonder if someone tried to rub out a spot or a scratch.

Two options come to mind. Grease Filled Die or struck through. I am leaning towards Grease Filled Die since there is not definitive form of something being struck through on it. I do not think that is was rubbed since it received a clean grade grade from NGC.

CoinsKelly is right. If it had been buffed or cleaned, NGC would have caught it.

I think the grade is right for it. It's a nice coin.

So if the problem is that the strike had oil in and changed the coin is this coin more or less valuable? I paid 815 for it. What do you think its worth? Thanks as always/

IMHO $815 is a good price for it. MS-64 sales on Heritage for the last year range from $822 - $1300 for PCGS and NGC slabs. Interestingly enough, a beauty in an ANACS slab went for $722 - it looks like someone did a good pick up with that one.

I am not sure if you could reslab it as an error and increase the value enough to justify the re-slabbing cost and flip it.
