I have heard all the stories about the racketeer nickels and I'm sure this is a repro of one.. but it seems to have great details and why I like it as I really don't care about the gold plate part of it other then a way to remove it without damage.. do you folks think this is a real 1883 N/C V nickel as it's not reeded..
This particular date is by far the most common in the series to find in mid to high grade (these are so common they're not worth faking). I have no doubt yours is authentic, but unfortunately it has been plated to look like a "racketeer" nickel. I don't think there's any good way to remove it without further damaging the coin.
