There is a 1994 DDR on LCR but the doubling is on the opposite side of the letters in AMERICA, though it appears similar to me in depth and character...so I have to ask: MD or DDR?

Yes it is Machine Doubling. Flat, shelf like and reduces the normal size devices. Sums up Machine Doubling well.
