I have been shooting with an XT, as well and have been very satisfied with the results. I just recently purchased a dedicated macro lens (which I love, but still learning), but have been using an inexpensive Sigma 28-135 (macro at 135, 1:2 reproduction ration) for quite some time with good results.

I love my DSLR - learning all aspects of digital photography is great. Gets me outdoors on the weekends and now I'm pretty much the only person bringing a camera to family functions :) I particularly enjoy the outdoors macro part of it. There's so much beauty around us if we only took a second to stop and look...
