Hey guys, need help with this one. This is a Canadian Quarter 2004p struck on a foreign planchet. I tried looking on coin scan to see what foreign coins were struck in Canada to see if any match up. Couldnt find anything close. This quarter is very dark in colour and very thin. It weighs 1.61 grams. Seems to be some sort of rust or something near the edges? Any help would be great trying to identify this coin Thanks    |

Nice! How do you know it's 2004?
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Is it possibly struck on a Canadian 10 Cent planchet, which would weigh 1.77 grams of nickel plated steel  |

I have the same version with a date on it 2004 P 25 cents 1.62 gr. dark grey colour, also a 2004 5 cent version 1.25 grams had the coin xrf, results were iron. For those with computer skills look up a NGC # 2046580-007 it will bring up 2004P Canada 5 cents on foreign planchet 1.7 gr similar type of coin

Hey guys, Thanks for your quick replies. John, I also have a nickel that looks just like this quarter. It shows the date....2004. It weighs 1.29 grams. Do you have any idea on what country this planchet was meant for? DBM, Sorry. I actually dont know the date. I was thinking of the nickel. here are the pics of the nickel.   |

I was told by the seller that it was on an Israel planchet, but that does not match up. My graded and two loose coins are a dark grey blue colour looks like a slug from an electrical box, but I have seen another in a NGC slab. The xrf was mainly iron, might have to repeat it. All the coins are 2004P that I have seen, it would be cooler if struck on a slug, also sorry the NGC # has no picture.

I have seen the 2004P 25c, 10c and 5c on this planchet. It is almost pure iron on the XRF, and very prone to rusting. This planchet does not match any international coins that the RCM produced from 2001 to 2005. Back door job in my opinion - I am still looking for a 1-cent example and a loon example - apparently they exist. This is one coin that might be necessary to lacquer.
