It had been since late last year since I did any CRHing, so I figured it was time. My MO has typically been to get a box of nickels and cents on one trip and then dimes or quarters on the next, rotating. Just to keep things sane, you see. *mad cackle*
Well, today was a light day at the office so I decided to knock off early, get the oil changed in my truck, and pick up a couple boxes since my oil change place is directly next to my bank.
Oil change successful.
Crotchety battleaxe teller didn't want to "sell" me boxes of coins since I'm not a business customer. I've been getting boxes of coins from them for years so I was taken a bit aback. Anyway, she called her boss over who rolled her eyes (not sure if at me or at the teller) and said something along the lines of "yeah, that's no problem".
So I ended up with my two boxes looking forward to a couple hours of entertainment this weekend...and of course I opened the boxes and they're brand new, shiny.
Strikeout. Will definitely fill a couple album holes but at this point I'm not sure if I have the patience to sort through 2500 cents and 2000 nickels that look EXACTLY THE SAME searching for errors.
*sigh* life is so difficult.

Ugh, sorry to hear that. You have alternatives (pick up only circulated rolls).

That has happened to us all, I'm sure. I've been Click Clacking for years and the new boxes come out around this time. Just got a penny box today that I'll have to exchange later. Its a minor set back. I usually check when I get in the car and if they are new I go to another bank and exchange it for another dirty box of coins.

@fistfulladirt, do you mean ask for rolls instead of a box?
@Mr Click - I've tried to do that but my bank says once the box is opened they won't trade it; and they don't take rolled coins, only loose. Bleah. So usually it means I keep a roll of shiny, break a couple rolls to find a BU specimen for my albums (if I need one), and then just break the rest as quickly as possible into a deposit bag, then try again.

@CelticKnot, I live in a big city so I joined 3 different banks so that when I get a Brand new box I can go to the other and exchange it. 2 of my banks, Suntrust and BOA are my pick up banks. The other bank PNC is my drop off bank. Each bank has tons of locations here in town, I've never had a problem. You might think about opening a $100 checking account in other banks so you have more options.

Quote: @fistfulladirt, do you mean ask for rolls instead of a box? Yes. I search mostly dimes, and I can usually find about $2k in dimes between 2 banks each month. I don't search the other denoms, but it is easy to score "customer-rolled", you must do your footwork and locate them.
