Did the fire brigades charge a fee when they first starting out over there? On this side of the pond. They had a device or shield that was attached to the front of the house to indicate that the owner paid their dues so to speak. Goes along with some of the early formation of our insurance industry.

You might be better off contacting Some of the English fire buff groups or collectors. As they might have a lot more information on them and their value. Or the local historical museum. From the way it is portrayed on the programs we get state side very village has a small local museum along with the resident expert.

Found a reference to a threepence "check" or token from the Geelong Fire Brigade, and they were in Australia. What I can't find is a record of a town of Colsterworth in Australia; just the one in Lincolnshire UK.

Don't give up yet !

It's worth spending time and a bit of effort.

I suggest you write a short piece describing it with photos and send it to Lincolnshire Past & Present - see http://slha.org.uk/publications/magazine/

I also suggest contacting the Lincolnshire Archives

- see http://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/resi...2378.article
