Hi, I'm new to this, but have at current time one krugerrand proof coin, and would like to add some more proofs to my collection. But some sellers charge in my mind a bit to much extra compared to BU bullions coins, and from a investment standpoint - is it worth it? If I would like the eagle 1 oz coin in proof will it pay off, or would I be paying for something only some see value of?

Proof is a different finish or shine. There´s a bit of extra work involved to get the coin that lustrous. If you like it you buy it, if not the BU coin will suffice for some people. It all depends on the consumer. I don´t own any proof bullion but some people on this forum swear by it.

I dont buy proof bullion but lots do and at a good premium, so if you like it I would say go ahead, it will always have a premium if you ever sell it. Oh and to the forum

IF you are investing.... I think as PM prices have gotten beaten up and pounded,, and as PM prices drop, I think the best bang for your buck if you have to buy gold coins is to stick to proof coins.
However, I would not be buying all proof coins either. Many of these AGE eagle proofs have done a horrible job of holding their value. A few have bucked the trend due to mintage numbers.
Therefore, right now in this environment where coins are falling in price due to the prices of gold and silver, you need to select the proper gold coins that are holding their value or at least have come in on price but not as bad as other coins.
The problem tho, is that eventually, continued falling prices will knock down just about every proof coin out there.

Hi, Thanks so much for the answers. At current time my collection consists of: Norwegian collecters coins (Olympics in Lillehammer, Nobel Peace price, Millenium coin etc..) for some reason at current time these sells for spotprice + 8$ in premium, it would amount to ish 1-2% premium. One krugerrand proof and one australian nugget 1 oz proof. At current time I think I would like these in proof:
Gold eagle: 1986,1992,2014 Krugerrand: 1986,1992,2014 Nugget: 1986,1992,2014 These are the special dates - birthyear for me, my girlfirend and when we got togther (sentimental value) Is there any other dates I should consider? I'm also considering buying more silver, platina and platinum over the years...is that any good ideas? These are anyhow money I normaly would have spent on like electronics etc.

Some bullion come in proof or BU etc, I prefer the proofs but some BU can be just as nice , you really need to look at them in hand if possible before you buy but that's not always possible. Some BU look just horrid with dull surfaces and the like but some BU are shiny and are proof like.
If you are buying just to stack then the cheapest BU type is all you really need but if you like looking at some of them or want to display some then go with proofs. Personally I buy all types, Proof NCLTs, proof bullion and BU bullion.
Oh ya plus bullion coins can also be classified as semi numinous, some are just as nice as NCLTs actually, maybe better lol.

Thanks for the answer. I decied to skip dates and rather look what I find for best price. It seemed impossible anyhow to find the dates I wanted for the right price..

There are lots examples of where a mint has produced many more examples of a coin of the same date and type in proof standard, than in uncirculated standard.
In these circumstances the uncirculated standard coin quite often, will have a higher catalog value.
