Hello CCF!
I went to a local flea market this weekend, and came across this fellow that had a plate full of old coins, including 29 of the worst looking Morgans and Peace dollars I've ever seen. So I got them :)

Low-Ball-Bonanza

Some of the dates are impossible to make out, and some are just next to impossible! Hopefully a couple winners are amongst them.

I asked him how much, he said $17 each, or 4 for $60. I thanked him and left. As I was almost to my car, I decided to go back and make an offer for the whole plate. There was $38.80 fv on the plate, including some quarters and dimes in very nice shape. He took $400 for the lot. He said he bought over 100 dollars in an auction 20something years ago, and these were what he had left. He even through in a Crown bag to tote them in!

That is a great price, probably under melt depending how much silver has been worn off.

However flea markets concern me due to the number of fakes being peddled at some of them.

Thanks for the welcome, and kind words.

The first one that caught my eye is second row middle. It's a CC, but I'm not positive of date. I think it's 1890, but could be '80, or something else :)

I'm trying to learn how to take/post pics that fit format, but are good enough to maybe get help reading date.

I'm partial to the Peace dollar in the last row with the black toning. Love the contrast it has. Cool find.

Man, I think you made the deal of the century! Many folks are now collecting "Low Ball" Morgans and Peace dollars and would be VERY happy to help you liquidate your new collection! Sweet score!!

Quite a bit of nice lowballs, should be a lot of PO-1's to aG-03's on there as long as you can identify the dates. Are you working on a lowball set?

to the CCF!

Wow ... I am one of the 'low-ball' collectors who is envious and intrigued by your fabulous score. I would have certainly purchased that lot if given the opportunity.

Hopeful that you have some true low-ball winners there ... honest (non-molested) surfaces coins identifiable by both date and mint mark.

Some insight for you .... The low-ball Morgan series has nearly been conquered with PO01 examples for most grades ... this is likely the most collected series on the planet.

The low-ball Peace series is under-appreciated IMHO ... and tougher to find true low-ball examples as the date/mm wears away before the perimeter legends reach PO01 state.

The Peace series has ample opportunity for a new PO01 as the initial low-ball ... there are 6 of the 24 coins in PCGS holders with nothing graded lower than FR02.

Hopeful that you can share some individual photos of the coins .... and please be mindful that despite your welcome addition to the forum you are way too new to pose/entertain any buy/sell/trade offers from the members.

Man, NICE pick up dude! I just started working on my lowball Peace set. I know I would have snagged them at 15 bucks each let alone 400 for those plus some other coins.

Thanks for the tips! I'm not looking to sell anytime soon, but I am interested in learning more.
The coin collecting bug hit me rather recently, and I didn't even know about lowball collecting until I read the thread on the 22 Peace.
I'll try to post some individual pics, and learn as I go, Starting with:
can I even post pics in quick reply?

Copy the image,
Open "paint"
Click paste,
Click crop,
Now use the right button on mouse,
Now click invert color

The dates are better now. If the image was larger you could see them better.
