Hey,

I was just at my local Walmart, and I checked the CoinStar machine to see what some people might have left behind as rejects, and found a few cruddy Zincolns and this odd Canadian nickel with two dates and a torch on the back. The dates are 1945 and 2005, so, is there anything special about this nickel? I'm guessing since it was made after 2000, it is Mult-Ply plated steel?

Another question is, should I store my cupro-nickel Canadian nickels mixed in with my U.S. nickels, since the U.S. nickels are Cupro-nickel?

Oh, and one more thing. Is there anything special about 1950s-1980s Canadian pennies? Or are they just all copper?

2005 Victory nickel. 60th anniversary of the end of WWII. Yes, plated steel. Alloy: 94.5% steel, 3.5% copper and 2% nickel. Mintage was 59,258,000.

The V is for victory and also the Roman numeral 5.

The original 1945 commemorative (see my avatar) was a chrome plated steel core coin. The 2005 coin is a tribute to the WW2 veterans via the 1945 design.
