I am still scratching my head?

I took a trip out of my normal area to hit up some local coin shops. I found one about 20 minutes away they only appeared to buy and sell silver coins. When I told them I collect copper coins they told be there's a box of junk on the floor. Everything else they dumped into a bucket 2 for 25 cents.

So I start going through it uncirculated 2000p Wide AM, another. Then I see there was even modern Kennedy halve dollars in it? So I ask again are these also 2 for 25cents also in a nasty voice yes all the junk in the box is 2 for 25. So I grabbed 50 coins it came to about $6.25

I took the following everything in 2x2 flips and in bu shape

2 2000p wide ams bu
1998 Wide AM bu
1960- rpm bu I didnt figure out the rpm# yet
1985-d rpm bu
1993-d rpm bu
1987-d rpm bu
double clipped 1970-d
15 Kennedy halves
1923 canadian cent
1920 canadian cent
1921 canadian cent
1962 canadian cent harp variety
5 1968-d nickel all varied shades of blue toning
the rest where bu wheat cents mostly from 1940's and 50's

they wrapped it in a bag and told me to come back they always have worthless junk people bring in.

I am still trying to figure this one out... I left with 7.50 in Kennedy halves and 13.75 cash a ten, 3 singles and 3 quarters.

So I went inside with $20 and left with $21.25 and 35 coins

8 us error coins
1 Canadian error coin
1 key date Canadian cent
and 5 nicely toned nickels

I think they just paid me for my time.

Ah I love "junk" boxes. Have found plenty of random silver, some great Semi-Keys, and some rarities. Most the time the US does not hit the Junk boxes I am at, but I did find a 1864 and 65 2 cent a month and a half ago.

Maybe I should start visiting those silver/gold buying places more. I never visit simply out of spite, but I could easily see how in their eyes if it's not silver or gold it's junk. They're not in it for the numismatics. They're there for the money.

Dar, here is the shop they get reviewed as being very rude on google local... but lol I am fine with that as long as they pay me to visit... but I don't think I would go back even after scoring that... They where busy buying some little old ladies dead husbands coins for $7 while I was search through which was weird cause it looked like more then $5 in face of silver coins. I felt good about my score but sick to my stomach about the place in general.

It seems that many "coin" shops only like to deal in bullion. These shops tend to ignore not only errors and varieties, but foreign coins in general and exonumia too. It's too bad.

Thanks Ocala, I don't know weather I would actually be able to 'go there' as I'm A bit on the disabled side awaiting surgery.

But if/when I can, I might stop by for a look see. If they are That bad it will make me feel all the better for liberating their "junk".

2 coins for a quarter the whole lot was a score... Yes the wams where in 2x2 labeled 1998 wide-am very visible..it took all the fun out of cherry picking...I talked to friend he said the owner is away in Europe on vacation so the staff must not be knowledgeable or just not care to check. Bullion / gold and silver is all a lot of places care about....there a lot of pepper types down here that think they will need it to survive..so they buy bars weekly...
