I purchased from an son of an old collector that passed in last year about 400 1 cent coin. These coins are from 1930 until 2005.

Well I found in this lot 2 1943 but in steel .
But I found another coin from 1986 that one side is blank, it is thinner than 0.2mm another and equal to about 0.17g lighter.
I do not know if it is a minting error or if it is a counterfeit.

I took 2 pictures and any help will be welcome.

Tks,

Paulo

Hi Paulo - Welcome to CCF! It looks like your coin had the reverse sanded off. Post-mint damage ( PMD). The 1943 Steel cents are wartime issued; the 1943 copper is legendary!

The 1943's are meant to be steel, it was War time and they were trying new things. the 1986 is most likely what is called PMD, Post Mint Damage.

After it was minted someone wanted to see the zinc center so they took a belt sander to it for a while.
