Check out this clown's story and then report the item along with me. The last teeny tiny footnote about the jewelry store authentication is just too much. He's got many for sale, some auction some fixed price. I don't have a problem with selling replicas if they are labeled as such multiple times in the listing. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Credit-Suis...em19ed5062a1

The item in the link in the original post is 'ended' but I found another one...don't have a bay account so I can't report it.

Other than the story which would be awesome if true (but highly, highly, highly unlikely), how is one to determine that the bar is fake?

keepcalm, buy all you want at $2.90 each from these guys. ht tp://w ww.aliexpress.com/item/High-Quantity-50pcs-lot-Replica-24k-gold-plated-Credit-Suisse-bars-One-Troy-Ounce-999-gold/1097041011.html They will laser the numbers in sequence for you if you want. The ebay sellers numbers are all within 35 of each other. These are as fake as they get.

I would never buy gold bullion. Not even the 3 dollar replicas. I was just wondering what gave it away as a fake because I couldn't tell by the picture. But that makes sense since the serial numbers are so close together I guess.

The problem is you can't just say "These are fake," you have to explain and I'm wondering what you would say.

When I reported the items I pointed out that they are exactly like any number of Chinese counterfeit Credit Suisse bars right down to the laser numbering. His story about not wanting to break out the bars out of the plastic for the jeweler to authenticate is complete BS. The plastic enclosures are only snap shut and can be opened with your fingernails. The items along with all the BS stories, pricing below spot to "share his good fortune", and the no return policy = counterfeit to the Nth degree. Yet he still has some listed so I guess ebay doesn't care. They're going to care when the buyers want their money back through the buyer protection plan after they test all these bars and find out they aren't real.

I could be wrong but I think that most of these buyers buy it as an investment so they will keep it "sealed". It's a complicated issue. I remember a similar situation where a seller sold a coin in a holder. The return policy said that he only accepts items that are returned in the same condition, so a coin in a holder must remain in the holder if you want your money back. Well, this buyer cracked the coin out of the holder and sent it to another grading company. The coin come back unholded because it was a fake coin. He contacted the seller immediately and the seller said that it's very clear indicated in his policies that he can't accept a return of a cracked out coin. End of the history, ebay sided with the seller.
