Hi,

this medal, issued to honor the 3rd "german federal shooting festival" in vienna.
the first one was held in frankfurt (1862), the second in Bremen (1865).
Between 1862 and 1965, there have been 23 of this festivals.

it was also very political.
after the revolution of 1848, there was the question of how to build a german federation.
either the "Kleindeutsche Lösung" (small-german solution under prussian leadership) or the so called "Grossdeutsche Lösung" (including austria under leadership of the habsburg emperor. At the end, the first has been choosen.

The slogan on this medal is the Swiss so called "Rütli-Schwur" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%BCtlischwur
"Wir wollen sein ein einig volk von Brüdern" means: "We want to be one united people of brothers", which was interesting as a slogan for this festival. 2 years ago, the german-austrian war was over.

Thanks platinrubel! I find the history of that area to be fascinating... Does anyone know a rough idea of the value of something like this? I did a quick search and couldn't find anything identical which had sold recently?
