Here is a fun one to grade. Tell me what you think the grade should be and what you believe NGC gave it!

Have no idea what this coin is and have never graded one before, so I'll take a shot at it. After all, this is a learning experience, coin collecting is.
F-12!

As a Vermonter I got excited and had to get my RedBook out to look it up. If I'm not mistaken, it's a 1987 Vermont Britannia. I'll say Obverse is F-10 and Reverse is AG3. So we'll go G-6 overall. Probably no where close though. Love the coin!

Typical weakness on reverse, done purposely on this Ryder mule. Machins Mills coins are great....I like this is in the VF+ area.

I'm at VF25-30. NGC gave it F15 I'm guessing. Yep, typical strike weakness..especially the reverse (as mentioned, Machin's Mills).

I'll go with VF-35, but get it out of that plastic!

How come you don't like plastic, philadelphian?

I would never presume to speak for p. But I feel. Old copper should be handled, its history felt. It's a tactile response that cannot be accomplished with a slobbed coin.

Imagine if the only way you could see the Venus de Milo in the Louvre was in a plexiglas box with a big sign on the front saying, Acme National Professional Sculpture Grading Company (Hoboken NJ)-- F15 Details (Arm Damage).

Very well done everyone! NGC gave this F12, but I too concur with the VF comments made above. It makes for a nice type coin for my pre-fed/colonial set with an interesting bit of history regarding Machin's Mill and Vermont (I believe this is the only "legal" coin Machin's Mill produced?)
I would normally break this free from the plastic and put it in an envelope, but the coin has pedigree and I'd rather not lose that (though it did come with the previous owners 2x2 envelope).

Quote: Very well done everyone! NGC gave this F12 TPG's are getting better but have a long way to go when it comes to the proper grading of Colonial copper.
