Nova Scotia 1382 / 1832 corrected date contemporary counterfeit.

if I understand the history correctly this contemporary counterfeit originally had dies stamped 1382 by mistake. soon after they corrected the dies by over stamping them 1832, which looks a lot like 1882 - which is the date that this auction was listed with by a seller who was unaware of the variety. it looks like a weak strike but the crude features are typical of "mint state".

the auction listing described it as "rubbed", which I think is slang for "polished with a dremel tool" but after some time to re-tone it will improve. given the price I paid, and it's somewhat rarity, I am pleased to add this to my collection.

original auction pictures:
(I will add better photos once the token is in hand)

This token is identified in Charlton's catalogue as NS-3C2. This is the more
common of the two corrected dates. One has a die-chip near the mouth, the other
is absent the chip. The chip is the more common. The token has been cleaned and
polished. Hopefully the colour is not orange. This series was poorly struck and
the technical grade is F-12 -- but dependent upon actual looks, could be knocked
down a bit. Value is perhaps $20.00.

thanks John, I overpaid but still glad to get it.

I have a mystery token that should be arriving in a couple of days that I would like your opinion on. chances are it's a (really old) alteration but ?

diameter 33.4 (about right for a 1824-32 penny) but weight is 17.6 ? - silver or silverED. won't know until it arrives.

denomination and date absent (removed? or token struck with incomplete/altered die?)

here's a teaser (until I can get better pics & more info)

I`ve been looking for a decent low priced 1832/1382 and would be willing to pay more than $20 for one like yours Wade.

Concerning the Nova Scotia Token absent a reverse legend:

This token has been floating around on some sites and I previously
responded that I believe this to be a genuine token which someone
for some reason opted to remove the reverse legend. The token was
silver plated to hide any evidence of the legend being removed.
Since posting by original conclusion, I have not encountered any
opinions by others to negate this hypostasis.

so a scratch test on the rim probably won't hurt any?

would plating account for the extra gram in weight? or would 17.6 be with tolerances? (I only have one original to compare at 16.6 g)
