Rather than decide how many of each to keep, if it were me, I would take a continuous improvement approach. Where there are duplicates of a date/mint mark, I would let go of the least desirable coins of each date/mint mark, that is; any that are damaged, low-grade, have poor eye-appeal, etc. This may be an unbalanced approach regarding how many you would end up with of each in the end, but the overall quality of the collection would be significantly improved.
