Hello all,

Can anyone help attribute this silver eastern coin I have? I thought is was possibly Turkish in origin but cannot be sure. It is roughly 4.5cm in diameter and weighs 32 grams.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Jack.

Thankyou for the very fast attribution! May I ask, what characters are the date identifiers? I only really collect British milled coins so this eastern pieces are a whole new world to me! Also, it appears that it could be of some value after a very quick internet search, do you think this may be the case?

Many thanks once again, Jack.

At the bottom of the first picture are the Arabic numerals ١٢٠٣. I'm rubbish at grading, but this is going to fetch a good price.

Sorry to keep bothering you on the matter but would you be able to tell me how you distinguish between KM-67 and KM-507, a Yuzluk of the Ottoman Empire? It really appears to be a very confusing series! Thanks again, Jack.

The short answer is that I can't. I wasn't aware of the Empire coin so there's every chance that my attribution is wrong. You need to ask the moderators to move this to the appropriate forum where more experienced eyes can see it.

I moved it for you.

Yes, sorry, the coin is not from Libya. The mintname is immediately below the toughra on the obverse, and reads "struck in Islambul". Islambul was the occasional name for Constantinople/Istanbul; the coin is listed under "Turkey" in Krause.

The date is actually "regnal year 2", or 1203//2 as it appears in Krause. This converts to AD 1789-1790.
