Just picked up this 1936 Cleavland half dollar....Rather new at Commeratives....Please give some opinions of the grade of this coin,,,,Maybe VF-30 ?....not a lot of info out there about the lower grade ones,,,Also, what do you think it is worth? I paid $30 for it.....It has sure got some cool eye appeal.....Thanks for the help!

Your coin is known as the 1936 Cleveland Centennial half dollar ... interesting story behind the spelling of the name as shown on the obverse.

Short version of that story ... Moses Cleaveland arrived in the area in 1796 with settlers from New York ... his name was shortened to Cleveland to fit the format of the initial local newspaper.

Your coin is somewhat difficult to find in honestly circulated condition.

Reviewing your photographs I believe ... with some experience in circulated commemorative ... that this example is VF35/XF40 with likely a surface cleaning.

Nice pickup of a historical coin for $30.

Thank you all so much for the replies.....I've been adding modern Commems to my collection for some time,,,Then, it got to the Columbian,,then my favorite, the Stone Mt.,,Then Booker, and Carver...WOW,,,the history is awesome, and the coins are BEAUTIFUL....I don't see them that often in my LCS....Thanks for the Cleaveland history lesson.....Now,,on to the 1918 in decent MS !!
