Arguably ever single coin in existence is unique in one way or another, the same as every living person/animal is unique.

I own a lunar mule, I consider this a true error/limited edition variation as admitted by rm.

Then there are people who insist on calling things like the 'standing on the shoulder of gants' an error and then hike up the price when selling the coin to others. I would consider this most likely a worn/degraded die where the 'i' in giants is missing as the spacing is identical to that of a 'giants' coin. I don't ask for a premium for my worn 'fair/fine' coins with some of the wording missing so why should they? I'm also sure that these same sellers will be most reluctant to buy their so called error coin at a premium. I think they are simply there to rip people off and give coin collectors a bad name. It just seems that for some it's like every single coin that comes into their possession is a unique error coin that deserves a premium.

any opinions?

There are people out there, especially on unregulated markets such as ebay, who through either ignorance or premeditated lying sell post-mint-damaged coins as "errors", and who sell common, everyday, nothing-to-get-excited-about minor errors or varieties as some kind of hyper-rarity.

As I understand it, the edge inscriptions on British coins are applied via a high tech, high-speed version of the old-fashioned Castaing Machine: the letters are rolled into the edge of the blank planchet prior to the coin being struck. This two-stage process means it is vulnerable to the occasional doubling, missing or faint letters. And, of course, which "way up" the edge lettering appears is entirely random; this doesn't stop the abovementioned dodgy sellers from selling one or the other as "RARE!".
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

The new Freedom Girl Gold ounces from Silver Shield say .999 on the die but they're actually .9999. I consider that an error by the die cutter.
