Anyone looking for PEG LEG(s) in their Ike dollar hoard? Finally got around to looking for the Ike peg legs in my collection. Out of the coins I dumped ... wonder how many were peg legs. And for that matter ... anyone looking for peg legs in all of your coins?

Would someone mind uploading a picture of the difference between a peg leg and normal Ike?
I assume it has to do with the reverse and something with the eagle's leg.

I assume it has to do with the reverse and something with the eagle's leg. I can not up load a pic from my best source. Copy right. The ( R) in liberty (OBVERSE) is with out serifs(sp?). Did I spell that correctly? You can even look at the ( R) here. It has no serifs. The left LEG of ( R) goes straight down, and is "flat" at the bottom. In some cases the left leg is shorter and "fades" at the bottom. . I like that. Some call that "CUT OFF AT THE KNEES."Could say a lot more ... but a picture would tell it better.

I get the idea pretty well. Makes sense. Any idea what causes it? Weak strike or grease maybe?

Duncan24 The "fading" of normal(?) to =====> peg leg comparison pics. Of course, you want the ones father to the right. (In this series.) There are other peg leg configurations. It's all over the place. (At least for me it is.) Still in my newbie education on PEGs

Has something to do with the reverse side regarding the "LL" in dollar. Just read something about polishing and one other "WORD" having to do with the MAINTENANCE of the dies. As I just said ... still in my newbie 114 day education.

I'm pretty sure peg legs result from polished dies. Enough polishes totally removes any trace of sheriffs. That is why there is a peg leg "progression".
Am I wrong guys?

Agrippa........... Quote: What years do we look for these on? I ( NOW) look at ALL my Ikes for peg legs. I keep running into what I call "sliders." But I keep "rejecting" them from my "final stash." Have 3.5 Tubes of peg legs, as of now. If I ever get around to using ebay ... I don't want any ebay problems. It is my considered opinion that (about) 1.6% of all Ikes are unintentional peg legs. But of that 1.6% only about .3% will make AU-MS. To get a good peg leg ... keep moving your head from right to left, over your best spy glass.
