A business dropped these beauties off in a deposit. 5 proof Sacageweas and 4 proof Kennedy halves. Sadly none of the halves are silver. Are they still worth more than face value?

I've seen proof Sacs, Prez, and Ikes a time or two (also a bank teller), but never that many at once.

However, I was fortunate enough to snag a 40% Kennedy half (1969) today.

Sadly, once a proof is out of its holder its value plummets. The market for them is pretty volatile, but I'd say $1-2 each would be fair.

Awesome score though! I wonder what makes a person so desperate for money that they crack a proof set open and spend it...

Awesome haul. I'd say they are worth more than face value, how much more I'm not sure.

The Sackies are nice. They handed you the key proof Sackie, the 2001-S. In the current 2015 RedBook, it has a book value of $50. I forget why it has a higher value than the rest of the other dates, but it has always been the key proof coin of the 2000's. the Kennedys are worth a few dollars each. They all should be 2x2'd to prevent further finger marks and other debris getting on the surface. Seems like someone broke open a collectors proof set and spent the high face value coins. But you got way more than face value on this group. Congrats, nice haul.

If you are referring to the OGP lens, I disagree. Because of album set builders, individual prices tend to be higher than when sold as an intact set (the cost of not having to hassle with selling the unwanted coins).

However, what you said is often true once they are out in the wild, because of the damage that occurs with circulation.

Regardless, very nice finds, carnold744!

Very nice and obviously not out for long. Looks like minimal damage.

Into 2x2s as bizy said. And as jbuck said, coming out of the OGP does nothing to reduce their value. You can usually get more selling a proof set piecemeal than all at once. Obviously not always true.

Yeah, they all came in one deposit so I assume it just went from someone's collection, to the store, to the bank. Very, very minimal marks on any of them. I will probably go to the store in the next few days to pick up some 2x2s for them. These are the first things I have found in such excellent condition.

True, true, but those proofs could be in worse shape. Some appear to have circulation marks, but some don't...might just be the angle of the coins and the fuzziness of them just masking it.

Ahh I used to work as a teller before I really got back into collecting. I think I may try to get a weekend job on saturdays as a teller later in life to feed my hobby. Love the finds. Found my first War Nickel in the coin machine bags. It looked different and I grabbed it. Sure enough, 35%

Agreed. The sooner they can be saved, the better. These appear to have been saved in time.

I meant to comment on this earlier...

More often than not, it is an heir or a thief cashing in these coins, and neither realize what they have has value beyond face.

You sure about that? I know the price on the 2001 S proof Sac has been dropping for years. In the 2014 RedBook it's down to $15. Why would it quadruple in one year? The 2001 clad proof set is listed as $18. What is the 2001 clad proof set listed for in the 2015 book?

2013 has the 2001 PF-65 Sack at $60 and the full clad proof set at $20.
