Very overvalued coins... I don't think it's a good idea to overpay for those coins unless you have a lot of money and don't really care about prices... Not gonna buy them for sure...

I'll let someone else drive the new car off the lot. At some point the hype will die down and they will be available at more realistic prices.

Quote: These are damaged and asking $1000 over price guides? Am I missing something here? Nope, you're not missing a thing, that is exactly what is going on. Quote: The Saddle Ridge story is truly amazing, What story? Someone found some buried gold coins. We don't know exactly where, we don't know who buried them, or when, or why. A FEW of the coins in the hoard are the finest known of their variety. That's the whole story, everything else is hype.

I don't understand what story either... There is no story except good marketing and hype. For me, almost every shipwreck coin has much bigger story...

I'll wait until the prices on the secondary market are more reasonable. If the prices don't come down then oh well I won't own one. It brings to mind the Eric Newman sale in November 2013 several of the coins sold for high prices. Two months later on ebay I picked up one of the coins for $158 less than what it brought at auction. -MV

Good to know guys, thanks for the insights. Like I said I wasn't going to spend $3k anyway but it's good to know these often come down in price later.

A real good reason to buy the coin and not the holder. My guess is that after the hype of the first few days some of the luster on these will fade pretty quick.

They just added a new top $ ... $2.75M for the top 14 coins PLUS the can.

Do the people that found these coins get anything from the sale or will they lose out for telling someone?
It seems if you find a valuable find, someone will find a way to stick their paws into claiming it was theirs because the ship was from that country or was stolen or some excuse.

They were very, very smart. Retained a Lawyer who hooked up with one of the oldest and smartest in the business. They've provided enough information to quash every claim that has shown up, helped my the fact that nobody knows WHERE. So the "my gran pappy done buried 'em and fergot to tell us where" claim doesn't survive long. The US Mint has publicly said they were not stolen (there was a theft, the $ are close, but the thief had access only to a specific vault and would have only gotten coins from 1903 and 1904). etc. The IRS will get their cut. The TPG, Kagan's and Amazon will get their fees. But the bulk of the $ will go to the finders.
