I just got a notice from Amazon that the Saddle Ridge horde coins are now available for purchase; looks like all late 1800s Liberty Head gold dollars $2500 and up. Any one think these are a good deal, or are they marked up because of the notoriety/publicity about the find? I looked at a number of the coins in the MS 62 / 63 range. Most of the coins can be purchased for more than $1,000 less in the same grade in "regular" PCGS slabs. The Saddle Ridge story is truly amazing, but any purchaser is paying a substantial premium for it.

Most of them are very, very hiked up in price. Not worth IMO.

That's what I suspected, jhp2104 and zxcccxz. Of course, I'd get yelled if I spent more than $50 on buying a coin over the internet so I'm not in the market anyway lol.
Just wondering if they were pulling these prices out of thin air or if the market was setting it. Looks like it's all due to the story and popularity of the find.

Wow serious prices. Nice stuff though, and I can't believe the amount of coins listed!

Do not buy coins based on hype. Stick to value based on the coin alone. Paying for provinence has a low return on investment.

Never heard of 92, 97, 98 etc. Thats a professional cleaning grade or something?

It must be the PCGS Genuine Code. These are damaged and asking $1000 over price guides? Am I missing something here?

They have some really nice problem free coins too, all way high though.

Wow... Would not pay that for those... I'd like the history but those seem so wildly overpriced. Many damaged...
I was under the impression that all the coins found were in perfect, stunning condition, not cleaned and damaged. But hey...

These are the coins currently available to the public via Amazon - there are probably much better ones they're reserving for auction to try and get an even bigger profit margin on them.

That's a good point, nj.
Like the top pops and that stunning MS66 $10 they showed...
