This Domitian was acquired for inclusion in my Twelve Caesars bronze set mentioned in a previous post. After checking wildwinds, this coin, if real, seems to correspond to:

Ref Domitian AE As, RIC 1290 (RIC [1962] 791a) (Vespasian), Cohen 454cf, BMC 873

Domitian AE As. Lyons mint, 77-78 AD. CAESAR AVG F DOMITIANVS COS V, laureate head right with globe at point of bust / S-C, Spes advancing left holding flower & hem of skirt. Cohen 454. (One example)

The weight is 9.8 g. Comment on the authenticity and attribution, if it's legitimate, is appreciated. There's just $15 on the line but hopefully it's real so I can cross another name off the list. Finally, if it's worth the effort, I'd like to know how to clean this coin of the verdigris and black ink/paint. Thanks for looking.

Wow, looks ok to me. That BD really does need looking at. If you are successful let us know, you will get a lot of help sorting that out.

The coin is genuine, but as Pish said has Bronze Disease that needs to be treated, it has already caused some damage to the coin.

For $15 I would snap it up, the obverse is worth that alone. If you get it, keep it away from your other coins until the BD is sorted.

The trouble with BD is that it can be under the surface of the coin as well, probably why the coin is so cheap but for the price, I would take the chance. And read up on Verdi-care.
