Curious of what you folks think. All I have from my 2 1/2 months of gathering coins is silver - both modern and old.
I want something else!
I want to go with either a 1/10 oz gold coin - probably canadian, or a U.S. Statue of liberty platinum 1/10 oz.
Which would you get?

I would say Platinum, but maybe I'm biased. They're much harder to find, are made in smaller numbers and Platinum is a much rarer metal. I've always wanted one but have never gotten to getting one, probably cause I'm wanting to save up and get atleast a 1/2oz round not 1/10oz and that just doesn't happen. Talking realistically though, the design on the 1/10 gold is much nicer and is probably a more sound and stable investment.

Yeah, I'm sure a gold coin would be easier for a dealer to authenticate. I'm just thinking about how I could be like all: "Hey... I got somethin better than gold."

If you bought a 1/10 platinum eagle, it would be no harder for a dealer to authenticate than a gold coin. At this point in time, I would prefer the 1/10 Pt coin, though it most certainly will cost more. The price of Pt is higher, and the premium for Pt coins is generally higher than Au. You mention gold maples and platinum eagles, but you might also consider American gold eagles and platinum Canadian maples (which also can be had in 1/20 oz). Good luck!

Well, the reason I was leaning toward the Gold Maple Leaf instead of the U.S. gold eagle is that the maple leaf is 99.99% fine; whereas, the Eagle is 22kt. This may not make much difference to alot of people, but I'd rather have the 24kt. It would be more prone to wear being softer metal, so one that has some age, and is still in great condition would probably be a little less common.
As for the platinum coin, I'm not sure. I like some of the more obscure versions I've been finding, like those from the Isle of Man.

Good point on the gold maples. I tend to agree with you that I'd rather have 24 kt rather than 22. Also, the Pt noble is a well-know coin as well. No issues with authentication if you go to a dealer that knows their stuff. You have good taste!

I think gold is usually more sought after than Platinum as it is easier to find. This would probably make it easier to sell if/when you needed to. IMO

I would go with Platinum.

I would go for both. The spot gold and platinum prices have been fairly closely tracking each other for quite some time, but there have been periods of time where their prices have been quite divergent.
