I am still racking up quite a collection of modern silver proofs, mostly quarters for very good prices. I've bought a lot of 5 coin state and 6 coin territories lenses for around $5 a coin, tops I'll pay for one. Some I've acquired for cents over melt value.

Since I like mostly bright, shiny, pristine coins this fits my niche nicely without ponying up big bucks for classic proofs. As long as I can keep finding them that cheap I'm buying.

Someday, hopefully before I croak, these things will be worth a bit more when I eventually cash out.

The older I get the more I realize that coin collecting is about the heart, not the head. You can always find increased value, because someone in the world will buy your stuff at a higher price than you paid... the question, how long do you want to wait for that fellow to appear?

Rick, from 2004 to present the US Mint has produced Silver Quarter Proof Sets and these sets go for about $6-7 a coin. Even though the coins are a couple bucks more per coin, you'll get the COA, box, and the protective slab for the quarters. IMO, it is worth buying the sets over orphaned coins.

I started out as you, picking up silver proof quarters here and there. While the coins came in 2x2 holders, the coins had hair-line scratches and mirco-blemishes. Being a little disappointed, I switched to buying Silver Quarter Proof sets. I bought 3 of these sets and realized for a few dollars more I can get Silver Proof Sets, which include a silver Kennedy 1/2 dollar and a silver Roosevelt dime proof coins + the nickel & cent.

Congrats on your current finds.

Yep Weld, that what I am mostly acquiring, the silver quarters in the OGP. I do buy raw coins when they are priced right but when I find a set of 5 silver proof State Quarters for $25 or less I have to pounce. same goes for the full sets, priced right and I will get them too.

I do love bright shiny coins but I'd be lying if I didn't say I have investment potential in mind, it's what got me started in coin collecting, vs just silver hoarding. As a construction contractor I am depending on asset investments for my retirement, no 401Ks or handsome pensions for the self-employed. And scarfing up genuine United States silver proof quarters very near melt value just seems like a wise investment. At worse I should be able to recoup what I paid for them.

Any chance you'd share the place's name, if they have any extras?
