Hello, this is my first post...

I have been trying to research this coin (might be something else) for sometime now. As coin community kept coming up I thought I would try here as it seems to be full of knowable people.

A friend of mine explained to me a few weeks back that in 1990 her father discovered a large coin while digging in their garden. They where making way for a pool so it was quiet deep down. This is in Somerset, Glastonbury (where the famous festival is held). I have posted a picture of one side which I believe to be in old/classic Chinese script. On the other is a embossed image of a building which to me looks like is from the 20th century. It is face on with long modern features. Could this be from a machine? A medal? From the little research I could do into Chinese letter it might suggest a celebration on union between something? I'm not sure of the symbol in the middle either, a traditional design? A company logo? Any help or info would be great! If you would like a large image please just ask. Thanks.

Would you happen to have an image of the other side?

A picture of the other side would help those familiar with these.

I can get hold of it again but its just embossed picture of a long building. Might be the front of a school or the entrance to a nice looking factory. It looks modern to me. I will try my best to get hold of it. Thanks

It is a medal that was issued to commemorate the completion of the building of the Central Bank of Manchukuo Mint.

It is dated "the twelfth month of the second year of the reign of Kangde". This would be the year 1935.

Kangde was the former "last emperor" (Puyi) of China who the Japanese made ruler (1932-1945) of the "puppet state" Manchukuo.

Another example of the medal may be seen at this website.

Hello Gary,

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, its great to finally find out what it is! Very interesting history and it makes the mystery of how it ended up in Southern England even more baffling! Do you know if it was given to high ranking officials? Or was is sold to the general public? My other question is, does it hold any value?

Ben
