I came across an auction for a National Bank Note I'd love to own. It's from a town about 25 miles from where I live. It's been offered once before (12 years ago) and brought over $4,000.

I have acquired some of the other towns around but had never seen one from this town though the NBN census has a couple listed. Notes from this bank must be rare or tightly held.

Estimated to bring between $4,000 and $8,000 this time around. Mom would take me out of this world if I bid on it and won it. It shall remain out of my grasp unfortunately.

First NB of Milan, MO printed 5,492 sheets of the note above, which is fairly average. Must have a very low survival rate. Cool note nonetheless.

Only $2,275 large size out in 1935

Milan was a fairly large town back in the days when these were issued surrounded by a lot of farms. I'm sure when the Depression hit, a lot were redeemed.

Why must these notes hit the market when I'm not able to buy them and give 'em a loving home?
