I found ONLY the back half of a penny. The front half is completely missing. Not sure what it could be worth and have searched and searched for answers and have been unsuccessful. Has anyone seen this before? I am almost 100% sure it is a real coin. I have been collecting most of my life and have only heard of this once. Apparently someone had found 1/2 of a quarter and was told by an expert to put a million dollar insurance policy on it but that is all I know...

You can probably put a dime into the shell and have a cent on one side and a dime showing on the other side. Neat magic trick.
here are a few others that have been altered.

Altered coins are just damaged coins. Not worth a whole lot, but make interesting conversation pieces.

"One half of a coin" is a physical impossibility from the Mint. Literally, impossible. Without the other die to push against, there's nothing to create the image on one face.
