Bottom line is, I will enjoy this piece allot more as a pocket piece then I would in a 2X2 flip. Have I "lost" it ?

G'day, "lost it ?" ... just another thread in the rich tapestry that makes up a community. Perhaps you've heard of "irregular verbs" ? - I am an individual - You are an eccentric - He/she is certifiable
is the inscription "Daniel to Moses" part of the attraction ? Is 1871 significant ? A very good novel that I read last month features a character with a "pocket piece": "Q&A", by Vikas SWARUP, 2005. Peter in Oz

I have two holed "Daniel to Moses" stamped dollars and tried get my hands on that one(or one very similar, almost identical).
Would I have it as a pocket piece? No, I am prone to "misplace" things quite frequently.
However, I would consider that a GREAT pocket piece and can definitely understand how that particular piece can be appreciated more as such rather than stuck in a 2x2 or safety deposit box.

I'd get a different pocket piece. It looks pretty cool how it is and have nice detail on it.

At around $200.00 in VG-8 I think I would try to find another pocket piece and put this one away. There are not a lot of these around counterstamped or not and many small collectors would love to own such a coin.
My pocket piece is an old mexican peso that is so worn you can not tell what it is just by looking, of course I have carried it for over 30 years.

That's an awesome pocket piece. I think I need to upgrade but not that much.

<<is the inscription "Daniel to Moses" part of the attraction ? Is 1871 significant ?>> 1871 is not as significant as the Daniel to Moses inscription. My Father was a Minister as well as a Superintendent of a school district. <<I have two holed "Daniel to Moses" stamped dollars and tried get my hands on that one(or one very similar, almost identical).>> Any idea of the group or individual and reason behind the inscription ?

Some time spent in a pocket might do that China Lady some good It does make an even more interesting conversation piece than the Seated dollar though

This may be a stupid question, But why such an expensive type coin for a pocket piece? Most people I know have a $10 to $20 coin for a pocket piece, not a $100 or greater value.

<<<This may be a stupid question, But why such an expensive type coin for a pocket piece? Most people I know have a $10 to $20 coin for a pocket piece, not a $100 or greater value.>>> Hello madspec, Thank you for your wisdom concerning the seated piece. I retired the Seated after one day of pocket "pocker". The light brushing gave the Seated a nice "look", IMHO. The 1875s Trade with chopmarks just cried out to me as a good candidate for freedom. She cost $78.00 dilivered. Now for a story; A coworker who is interested in coins, but not an active collector or active in learning about coins showed interest in the pieces I show him. When I showed him the Trade dollar, his response was a surprise for me! He said, "I have never seen one of these". Where did you get this"? "I gotta have one of these for my board collection". "How much"? "How long will it take for (me) to find another one"? If just a meager $78.00 Trade dollar in such poor condition can spark an interest in a "sleeping" collector then I consider it a job well done and well worth the effort! I pointed out a Trade doller up for auction to him and explained that it had bin cleaned but authentic and still in decent shape , low AU, grade wise. He placed a bid. I hope he is succesfull cause the anticipation of seeing him open the package and holding his first Trade dollar in his hand ,,,,,,,,,,,,,Pricless!
