Picked this up at a shipwreck coins store in St. Thomas (which I highly recommend) earlier this year while on vacation. This was my 18th birthday present.

Thanks!

Thanks! We got it for $90, which I feel is a great deal. NGC has MS60 at $300 and Proof at $650 for this series... where do you think this one would grade?

I'm confused, was this a shipwreck coin or just another coin of from the same year? I have two of the 10 cash coins that were on the Admiral Gardner witch arn't nearly as nice as this. This coin doesent look like it has been at the bottom of the ocean for the last 200 years? Regardless that is a very nice example.

I have a certificate of authenticity that this is from the Admiral Gardner, but who knows. The dealer could very well have slipped me another coin's certificate.

I'm bumping this because it never actually did get a grade assigned to it... sorry if this breaks a rule!

The ten and twenty cash in MS grades and above, could have never come from the shipwreck; they should all show at least some evidence of saltwater corrosion if they did.

Actual genuine coins from the wreck are surprisingly more common than I originally expected. Shipwreck coins seem to be available for all, if you wait patiently enough for a pair to become available. I have a uncirculated pair with slight but obvious corrosion. I paid $20 for the pair about 15 years ago.

I would imagine that a proof pair would be extremely rare, and would be correspondingly valuable. THEY would never have been aboard the wreck of the Admiral Gardiner.

I understand why a TPG would not wish to grade a coin with corrosion, caused by whatever means.

Well, it looks pretty uncirculated.

The uncirculated 10 and 20 cash coins pictured also have slight but obvious signs of saltwater corrosion; they are well above the average than the more commonly seen examples from the wreck.

Alright, well then I guess I don't have a shipwreck example. No big deal.
