These two capped bust dimes dimes sold recently, one an obvious 1833, the other described as an 1822. I came upon this listing yesterday and was surprised by the final sale price.
Unfortunately, I think the buyer will not be happy with his purchase - the 1822 (and I think that is what attracted the buyers) is clearly not an 1822, but a later date, closed-collar dime dated 1832 in my opinion. The 3rd digit in the date is worn just enough to make it look like a 2. Could be an honest mistake by the seller, that is possible.
However, a comparison with a genuine example quickly reveals the difference.
The 1822 dime is a very scarce date (1 die variety only for the year, R-4, approximately 200 known), any example is valuable. Buyers should be alert and know what they are buying as mistakes can be costly.

You can see at a glance that it's an 1832. The seller had to really reach to convince himself it was a '22.

Even if you couldn't see the third digit at all you would know it couldn't be a 22 because the size of the digits on the 22 are much larger.

Any astute buyer would recognize this.

-May have been an honest mistake by the seller.
Some of the peepers on old-time sellers ain't what they used to be..

What really surprises me in this case is not the selling part, but rather how easily some collectors part with their money, without doing some checking and comparing first. This coin is so patently not an 1822 dime.

sometimes a buyer will be very impulsive thinking they have a steal/deal as would be the case happening across an 1822 dime

I'd want a slabbed one..that's for starters.

Buying a coin like this raw, your just asking for trouble.
