I need someone to just kick me in the head for going to a live auction with the intent of bidding on coins. I just got home from a live auction about five minutes away from my house that had wheat cents and about 150 modern world coins, along with 1 roll of assorted date Canadian small cents. 41 rolls of wheat's dated 1941-1958 sold for $10 per. $25 for the roll of Canadian small cents, and the world coins went for a whopping $36. No silver at all on this auction . There was also a 10% BP. The sad part of it all was this. I talked a bit with the auctioneer before it started and he said that he hated to sell coins at live auctions because they so for so little money.

Same thing happens here. A local auctioneer has several auctions per year and advertises in our little town of 500 that there are coins and people from neighboring towns show up. Average silver quarters that should fetch no more than $4-$5 each sell for $25-$30 each. Large cents available on ebay for $1-$2 each sell for over $20 and the trend continues. People automatically equate old=valuable. It's hard to watch.
