I just received a bottle of SLAB-RENEW in the mail today. I have been trying to clean one of my NGC slabbed coins, but I'm not seeing any results. All the fine scratches are still there. I have attempted this several times now. Has anyone else run into this problem?

Go to any store that has a auto parts section. Usually in most such places the carry an assortment of things for cleaning and/or fixing head light lenses. Not sure how any would work on a coin slab but I've used them on headlights lenses, solar light collectors, etc. and it works fantastic on those. So it wouldn't be a waste to buy some since if it didn't work on the slab, many other uses on plastics. Walmart had about 5 different types.

Are you polishing with a soft cloth? Otherwise you may be putting new scratches on it.

I always use mcguires car polish to polish my slabs out. It doesn't get all the scratches out but it does work pretty good. I have never thought about using the head light restore stuff but that is a good idea also
Edit: I just tried some Blue Magic Headlight lens restorer and since it has abrasives in the liquid it actually puts scratches on the slab, luckily the auto polish took them out though

Yes, I am using one of those micro fiber cloths which are very soft. I didn't want use a regular cloth for fear of adding new scratches. You guys think I should keep trying or contact the company to see what they say? Thanks for the responses.

I think it depends on the slab. I got some headlight stuff and it mostly failed on an old-style NGC slab but worked great on a PCGS slab.

The slab I'm trying to clean up is one of those extra thick NGC slabs that holds a high relief Australian Kangaroo. The coin is double thickness. I'm going to try to use this on another regular NGC slab and see what results I get. Maybe it's just that one particular slab?

Some 'scratches' aren't. They are hairline cracks. You won't remove them! I have capsules that have suffered in this way.

OK, I tried again with another slab that has scratches and scuff marks. Again, no results to speak of. In fact, there is not even a hint of improvement. I even tried using a softer cloth that is used to clean HD TV screens. Nothing. I checked SLAB-RENEW's feedback, and everyone says that the product works great. I must be doing something wrong. I think you may be right about hairline cracks, sel_691, but even the scuff marks did not erase. I'm confused. Should I contact the company and see what they have to say? I'm sure someone else has had a similar experience.

Quote: I always use mcguires car polish to polish my slabs out. Not sure but I think that is the name on one of the headlight restoring solutions I used. Not sure now since I used it all up on solar collectors. It really worked the best. And as to the type of cloth to use for such purposes I use what is called cheese cloth. It is the stuff used on super high painted finishes on cars.

There should be at least 5 different types. Some are exceptionally expensive and some are really cheap. I've tried them all and some work great, some hardly at all. But again I've never tried them on a coin slab.

huge fail for me and I had to reholder a slab because I got some on the hologram which totally dissolved it. even so I tried to remove some scuff marks which should be easy for the claims they advertise but no results..i used a piece of felt on the end of a wooden chopstick to work the small area but it was fruitless....seems to be good for removing holograms or labels

I'm not a chemist, but aren't you guys at all worried about putting unknown chemicals near your coins?
