Crumbling 1990 Lincoln Penny found while digging in yard. Anyone know why mint mark would be above the year? I can't find any reference to even this type of error anywhere.

Zabby, That is not the mint mark. As you stated

You are right! The cent is crumbling because it is part zinc. The acid or other material in the soil has destroyed the coin.IMHO

to CCF. It is zinc rot/environmental damage.What looks like a MM above the date to you is a burst zinc rot gas bubble.
