G'day from Darwin, in the Top End of Down-Under, - we don't have spotted 'roos around here, so I'm wondering if this specimen might have resulted from a cross with a quoll ? - and of course it's wonderful to see a football depicted on a coin. - I'm a fan of Reg MOMBASSA's art - I like to encourage ex-pat Kiwis - and I've been saving up to buy one of shirts (any of them, in fact) for years, but every time I get nearly enough, I can get a coin instead ... - Snooba has diagnosed smallpox, but I think the evidence is there for us to say "Bali belly" (a.k.a. Aztec two-step; Montezuma's revenge; etc, for our Seppo friends) - not into NCLT myself, so I don't expect to lay my hands on one of these. - Quiz question - which circulating Oz coin depicts a football ? Snooba I don't think I like this one, maybe it should be posted in the ugly coin thread. LOL Peter. Is it the 1982 Brisbane Commomwealth Games 50 Cent? Steve

G'day Triggersmob, you're too fast: I was hoping to stimulate some international interest in The Greatest Game of All. And yes, you're correct. Peter in Darwin

That design is hideous! I think I'll pass on the 08 as that coin is very disappointing! Smallpox..I agree!
Thanks for posting this! Looks like the 08 Kook is not worth the effort.

I was looking at this the other day. And I agree I don't really like it. But I will probably still buy it since I will need it to keep my set going.

There are spots on the kangaroo, the two trees, and roof of the house! "Put Me in the Zoo" by Dr. Suess.

I really hope it was designed by a child, and not an adult.

I like it. I'd buy one (as a gift for someone).

Very poor design which will probably demand a lower mintage which IS GOOD if you own them. The uglier the coin the less the demand and look out 10 years from now on the price list! Got to have them to keep my set going but still very disappointed! I have seen really bad designs turn into great investments in my life time as NO ONE wanted them when they were issued. My gut instincts says to get with my Aussie dealer, get them loaded on a fast turtle to the U.S. and let time answer my doubts.

Thanks for the information Peter. I am not doubting the man's artistic ability in any way but not quite sure if the world is ready for this particular type of work on coinage? As we all know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and there will be those who absolutely love this different version of the Kangaroo. As I said before I will have to have this coin to keep my Roo collection current and it will be very interesting to see what 10 or 20 years will do to the value if the coin is not well received.
Looking at other well known artist's works I can't help but wonder how many people in the world would like to have Homer Simpson and his family living next door to them? Who would have guessed, in the beginning, that this goofy, butt ugly family would become cartoon royality?
