This is a really worn dollar, but I thought it was worthy of posting just because it is such a low serial number. I am assuming since it is so worn it would not have any extra value. What do you think?

Too bad about the condition.
Maybe a very slight premium.

Whatever its value may be, I think it's a keeper for 1 dollar.

Slip it into a paper currency rigid sleeve so it does not become worse. I was stationed at an Air Base in in S. Korea that was the 51st Fighter Wing (Osan Air Base), they might appreciate it.

If you found the bill, it would have had a big personal connection
And thank you for your service in Korea.

Strange, the first thought that popped up when I saw the serial number was Area 51.
Maybe it's an omen for an alien attack!

This Note is a Keeper

This is a COPE error note, and what I consider to be a sleeper when it comes to 3rd print errors.

The BEP is slowly phasing out the COPE overprinting for the newer LEPE Serial Number overprinting, and unlike COPE, that cuts the stack of 32 subject sheets in half vertically, into 16 subject sheets prior to printing the serial numbers, LEPE does not require cutting and prints the whole sheet, making it impossible for "Switched" note serial number plate locations.

Your note's serial number is assigned to Plate A1, and your note is A3 (third quadrant location).

I started checking all the serial numbers on notes I receive from series 1988 to date, as standard runs consisted of 200,000 sheets per run & 100,000 sheets per *star run, making it easy to track note location, and have found a few switched plate errors that I set aside.

I believe currency collectors in the future will accept this as a genuine 3rd print serial number error when COPE (like the Alexander Hamilton Web Press) becomes nothing but a distant memory.

FYI ~ the serial number for Plate Position A3 on Run #1 should be E03200051E.

Thanks everyone for the info and I will try to learn more about these COPE errors Broken Coin. I looked it up on google, but really am having a tough time understanding exactly what the error is. I think I kind of understand, but I can tell I will need to do some more reading to fully get it. There is a lot to read. If you have a link to a website that would explain this more to me that would be great!

Below is a link for COPE versus LEPE.
Needless to say, I spent many hours/days and learned quite a bit on how to chart serial numbers...

It was this site that taught me that serial numbers are "assigned" by plate location, and all serial numbers on a 200,000 Note Run will have serial number 00000001 to 00200000 in Plate Position A1, 00200001 to 00400000 in Plate Position B1, and continue to H4 (06200001 to 06400000)...

Hope this helps

I listed it on ebay for fun just to see if it is really worth more than a buck.

Thanks for explaining the error to me. I would have never known, it don't look like anyone tries to sell these types or errors. I am guessing most people would not even know it was an error.

Try putting it up on ebay starting bid at 99 cents and see what happens. My guess is you might get 5-10 bucks for it, but who knows?

I am certainly not expecting it to sell for much because it is so worn. I have no idea if you can conserve a note but I would almost guarantee something like this would not be worth the effort. It will look a lot better in a sleeve though and it will keep it from getting any worse. I just don't have one at the moment to put it into.
