Last month I helped my mother-in-law's sister's husband, who is a Vietnam vet, sell a custom made Vietnam War memorial quilt that he made on ebay. He set the reserve at $500, and in the last 5 seconds it was met. He told me that he would give me 10% of the profit, but I refused. I told him that it wasn't necessary and that I was glad to do it for him. Anyway, a couple of weeks later, on Father's Day, he gave my wife this 1889-O Morgan dollar to give to me in appreciation for helping him sell the quilt (I had to work that day). Needless to say it was a nice surprise.

Comments on this coin? Grade? I think it may have been cleaned in the past. The images are accurate in terms of color and appearance. It was difficult to photograph. There is some nice green/red toning on the bottom of the reverse around the edge, which I think is secondary.

Nice surprise and I would say XF45 on a good day. These are notoriously weak strikes. nlp

Nice gesture on his part and yours as well!

I agree with EF-45.

I would say it has been cleaned. The toning is great though. It's in the High XF/Low AU range.

I can't comment on the grade but I place the value as priceless. You are a class act to help not expecting anything in return.

Agreed ... technical grade XF/AU likely cleaned.

Actual collector grade ... priceless with a tremendous family support story to go with it.

XF 45 all day. Cleaned? Who knows? Maybe. Regardless, that is a nice coin with a great story around it.
