A friend of mine loaned me this coin of his to do some research on. He said that his grandfather carried this coin in his pocket for many, many years so there is a lot of wear. Most of the surface is barely legible. I can make out that it looks like a guy (or girl) is seated with their back to the left of the coin, and on the other side there is an eagle above a shield with United States of America around the boarder and 1928 at the bottom. The coin appears to be copper and pretty thin. Just a slight bit thicker than a modern dime, and just the slightest bit bigger in diameter than a modern quarter. I'm sorry I don't have any way of taking good pictures of this to post. If anyone has any information on this coin, my friend would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a centavo from the Philippines.

Does it have a denomination on it ?

I agree with denco7, it sounds like a US-Philippines One Centavos coin.

The obverse of the image he has shown should match your coin, but your reverse should match the image that follows. The "1928" coins for the Philippines were struck while the islands were a US Territory and carried a different shield. The image shown by denco7 features the shield used after the Philippines were elevated to a Commonwealth in 1935.

Hope that helps!

That's exactly it! Although this one is no where near that nice. I'll print off some information and some images for him. If his grandfather was in WWII, it would explain how he might have gotten it if he were stationed in the Philippines. It might even have more significance to him knowing what it is and where it is from. Thanks a million!
