Since the proof of the pudding is in the eating , the proof of the camera is in the images ......the D810 produces way sharper images , its amazing looking at the details in the image.Interestingly enough the image crops also highlight how good that Nikon 105mm micro lens is

The 105mm Nikkor is a great lens to test the D810 sensor. When my D810 arrives, I'll take some pictures and post to the forums.

Many of the macro lenses we use far out resolve digital sensors. At the mag shown, the lens still has some steam left. The reviewer is using f10, which is shows the A A filter is probably limiting the D800. Too bad the reviewer is not more rigorous.

Quote: The reviewer is using f10, which is shows the A A filter is probably limiting the D800. And at f10 diffraction may be limiting sharpness too. Controlled tests on the 105 micro have shown that diffraction starts to affect sharpness after ~f8. /lenstrivia

This will work perfectly with a 105mm macro lens, but the question is, is it worth it? Well, that depends on how much your into photography. If you already have a great collection of other landscape lens, then sure, go for it. By the way, I'd say it's quite good for sports too because at DX it's almost got the pixels of the Nikon D4s and it saves you some money for long lens.

I suspect I'll do A LOT of testing on my part--before I write anything--after my D810 arrives tomorrow.

I have not been able to download the manual for some reason. What does it say about EFSC operation? Only in MUP? Can MUP mode be accessed via tethering or is it only a mechanical switch like on other Nikons? EFSC only in MUP and no way to view what you're going to snap a pic of is a tremendous design flaw if true.

As for tethering I think mirror-up is set in Lv, so it seems that you could enable the EFCS for Lv as well? When I get my camera tomorrow, I'll do a quick check and leave a note on this thread.

It depends on how Mup is enabled. Live View indeed operates with the Mirror up, but Mup mode is completely different and is normally activated using the selector wheel on other Nikons. If Mup can be activated remotely, then you could potentially frame and focus the shot in Live View, then engage Mup and take the shot, taking full advantage of EFSC. If you must mechanically move the selector wheel for each shot between Mup and normal modes, that would be a problem.

OK--I was curious about this feature myself, and I finally found confirmation in this 500+ page manual that you can enable the EFCS during Live view photography--from p. 42

So it sounds like you can enable or disable 'EFCS for mirror-up photography' with a manual button push, but it does not say that EFCS is active in Live View. I hope to hear it is from your evaluations!

Actually, I think the D810 manual answers that question, if in a roundabout way. If you zoom in to that Live View menu screen below, the third icon down represents the EFCS. While in Live View, it just needs to be highlighted via the multi-selector and switched on. I'm going to have this camera all figured out by the time it arrives!
