I am trying to figure out how to reduce the size of my photos to the 100kb limit. Currently my pictures are moving off my camera onto my pc at a size of roughly 5MB. Just a tad above the limit :) I am trying to not use the optimizer and learn how to do it on my own... the instructions I have are not any more than telling me how to turn it on and take a pic or video.

Also, I moved the selector to M which I assume means Macro, if I am wrong please let me know.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank in advance

Scott

What photo editing soft ware do you have? You should also consider using photo bucket. Up loaded the photo to photobucket. Then copy the link and paste the link into your post.

Well thank you for the tip. Software to edit is Picasa I think. I did use the image tool on thus site for a test and find it is pretty good for what I want. Also I do not think the M selection is god macro... but perhaps matte.

I am using my daughter's camera and she is not familiar with what I am talking about. So I think today I will find an online document and go from there. I appreciate your reply austrokiwi!

First, here's a tutorial on using Photobucket to post at Coin Community:

https://goccf.com/t/53146

Always - regardless of host - crop your images as close to the coin as possible. This minimizes excess pixels increasing filesize; you'd be surprised how few do that simple step and then have difficulty with the Uploader.

The "M" setting on your Mode dial is for Manual operation, not Macro. The Macro setting is on the multifunction button on the back - the flower symbol at the 9:00 position. The thing is, not all lenses function the same in Macro mode. Lenses have minimum focusing distances which are a function of their design, and zoom lenses tend to compromise this capability. The manual for your camera indicates a rather odd circumstance - your minimum focusing distance seems to be in the middle of the zoom range, not zoomed all the way out as most lenses are. You're going to have to play with the zoom to find out at what setting your camera can get closest to the coin, to maximize the size of the clear image you can present.

Keep in mind, though: coin photography is a skill, not a talent. It can be taught.

Thanks dave for the great advice and information. I never would have thought photographing a coin would be so involved. Each day I learn something new that makes me appreciate this journey all the more.

Every time I see your name I think of super dave osborne :)
